Sehar Khan

UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and Counsellor. Supervisor (Cert. Supervision) EMDR Therapist

To have found yourself on this website it's likely that there is something in your life that you're struggling with. Many people find that speaking with an independent person separate from their everyday lives can help to give a different perspective on what they're going through, and can also facilitate a space for them to share what they're feeling with no judgement in a safe environment.

I work with clients to help them work through experiences that they feel have changed them or impacted how they are managing their lives. This could be a recent event or something that happened a long time ago. I work with all kinds of bereavement such as miscarriage, illness, and accidents, but I have a particular interest in working with traumatic bereavement such as suicide and also infant and baby loss.  I also work with the impact of unrecognised grief such as infertility and how loss can change and shape the way a person sees themselves or their purpose in life.

Sometimes a bereavement or loss can make you feel that you are not able to be yourself because of other people's expectations of you, maybe some time has passed and people expect you to be who you once were, or expect you to be 'okay'. Sometimes people feel a lot of pressure and focus on the things that they think they "should" or "shouldn't" be doing, such as putting everyone else's needs before their own, or not allowing themselves to acknowledge their own feelings. It's not uncommon to struggle with adjusting to life after loss, if we were working together, I would help you to understand where those expectations and pressures are coming from and how to let them go.

My aim is to offer you a space to be heard, acknowledged, validated and understood. We will work together to see what Avenues may be open to you in making changes or finding a different way of managing the issues that you are dealing with.

One of the most important things for therapy to succeed is the relationship built between the client and therapist. I would encourage you to use the assessment session to make your own assessment that you're comfortable and feel that we can work together.  This is your therapy and it needs to feel right for you. I endeavour to create a safe, holding, trusting and supportive space. I believe with the right support we all have the potential to change the things we want to change and build a better relationship with ourselves and those around us.

Previous Experience

I started my training as an Integrative Therapist in 1999 at Regents University.  I completed my Post-graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy & Counselling and then after a short break continued to do the Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy & Counselling. As an Integrative Therapist I use different theoretical approaches to support my clients depending on their needs and the nature of the presenting issue. My experience has included working in a number of settings including Community Counselling Settings(Communicare Counselling Service), Charitable Settings (The City & East London Bereavement Service, Mind, Cruse Bereavement Care) , Employee Assistance Providers (BUPA, Care First, Health Assured) and IAPT in addition to my Private Practice. I also worked in Australia at Support After Suicide in Melbourne where I worked with clients individually and in groups.
